Congrats to Jett Yu, for becoming our latest autistic intern to receive his own variant cover. Jett Yu is American Chinese and is 9 years old. He is based in Phoenix, and loves to draw and really loves the positive portrayal of an autistic super hero through this international comic book.
Many thanks to Douglas Hebert and Yvonne Wan for coaching Jett as part of Focus Comic internship program which is intended to help autistic artists fulfill their creative potential and give autistic individuals greater representation within the comic industry and society at large.
Legendary Paul Mounts who is well known for coloring Spiderman and The Hulk and Captain America fulfilled Jetts dream of having his art colored by one of the industry’s top colorists.
Jett also did a comic strip on the community page. The community page art was inked and colored by Focus Creator Yvonne Wan.
Focus comic features one of the worlds first autistic super heroes, art by industry professionals and interns with autism. Focus is part of a humanitarian project. The social initiatives mission is to maintain dignity for autistic individuals by removing the stigma associated with it. It also aims to support autistic talent and the arts. Art is therapeutic for everyone, especially those with special needs. The proceeds from the sale of the book goes towards raising autism awareness including the cost of operating a free art camp for autistic kids in Phoenix.
Love what we are doing? Please support us in any way you can. Focus is currently available in English and French. The Chinese book is now available to pre-order through this website.
Here is an interview with Jett Yu:
We would like to give special thanks to Sulan Peebles and Kim Fyock for assisting Yvonne Wan with the translations. Did you know Kim has a PHD in Chinese Translation?
